The process of thought collecting

When I leave my home I always try to bring a notebook and a fountain pen (or two) with me. I've had my midori travel's journal for work appointments and day to day planning, a little notebook here and there for when a random inspiration hits me and need to write it down, I have a notebook at my PC at home for making notes during podcasts I listen to, a gratitude journal and a quote journal... on a random day, this would be what my desk looks like, a multitude of notebooks on my desk going on at once. The looks of it can be quite over-whelming to the outsider, but I have my own system I am working with and suited me fine. But then I wanted to look up something I knew I had written down somewhere, but I couldn't find it. All these loose journals were serving me well as brain dumps, but it wasn't providing the structure I needed when I wanted to follow up on things. I was looking into Bullet Journaling some years ago but decided that that was a "difficult structure to implement" and wasn't what I needed then.

But after seeing this very inspirational, insightful and well I would say quite soulful interview Brian Goulet from Goulet Pens Company had with Ryder Carroll the creator of the Bullet Journal System, I changed my mind about this.

Something struck a chord and resonated with me when he said
"I've designed this system to meet you where you are in life"
That is not only a really beautiful sentiment, but also because in this time in my life I actually feel like my Brain Dumps (or something other I like to call Soulful Insights) are at a stage where it needs to have some more structure. So I have decided to integrate my journals to one, where I keep not only insights and thoughts and observations, but also notes on The RobCast or School of Greatness podcasts, Ted Talks and other "soul food" and follow up actions on subjects I would want to know more about.

Like the topic of forgiveness and addiction. And then perhaps seeing and feeling how forgiving an addict could be done, while I am extending compassion towards myself for not being able to do this yet...  But that is a whole other topic for another time. For when I am able to articulate this better, with the help of gathering my thoughts in this beautiful Emerald Bullet Journal my husband has given me.

Namaste,
Cheetarah

PS: I am sharing this story with my fellow Desker's at Julia's Blog for WOYWW this week - hi ladies, this is a new blog from me, thought this would be a great way to introduce you to it :)

  1. Forgiveness...yes. To be able to forgive oneself for not having managed yet to forgive someone else's past behavior is key to moving forward.
    Congrats on the new blog

  6. Great that you found one journal system that will integrate all the others. I used to copy down poems which inspired me into a journal many years ago, before I started paper crafting and have no idea where it is now. I'd like to illustrate it if I ever find it. Happy WOYWW Sarah #25

  7. Oh that sounds like a wonderful idea. I too keep journals. One for my craft business, one for my gratitude one for book quotes, one for things I am learning whether from podcasts or books. But I would love to figure out how to keep them in one. I think my need to organize would paralyze that effort. So love to see how you are achieving that. Thanks for the visit to my blog yesterday. Now,I'm going to snoop around at more of your posts!

  8. Wow, that's a lot of journals to keep track of! I have an art journal or two, and my computer journal for "brain dumps' (love that!). Now you will be working with just one journal for everything, I hope it works for you! Looking forward to seeing your journey with Bullet Journaling! Thank you for your earlier visit and kind words! Have a great week, thanks for sharing! Lindart #35

  9. Well, your desk, piled with notebooks and journals and topped with a gracious fountain pen looks like a sight for sore eyes to me...All that beautiful writing! I love that you may have found a way to structure all this but am lamenting the fact that you might not be as prolific in just one book!

    1. Thanks so much for your kind comment Julia, and I understand what you mean. But I think that it might help me fill up one notebook faster, instead of carrying several at the same time. But it's all a test, so we shall see how this pans out :)
